Tell us things about The Jabbers that the average Cambodian streetwalker
doesn’t already know.
Well, I think those Cambo street girls pretty much know us inside and out. You can
hear one of them on Pussy Summit Meeting on our 1st lp. (yes, lp) Let's see, band

What was it about punk music that got you involved?
It was just fun. It was a new and exciting breath of fresh air in the musically stagnant
disco infested 70's.
When you formed The Jabbers what inspired you to make sweet beautiful
music together?
Well, GG and I had been a band since high school and of course by this
time we had already mucked about writing original stuff. When the
Pistols, Dolls, and Dead Boys hit, it made us realize that original material was a
viable thing. Not just something to get from the back burner once in a while if you
were bored.
You’ve played shows with some of the best acts ever to hit the stage in
punk rock. Of all the bands you’ve done shows with who’s been your
favorite and why?
GBH was really fun. We went back to Mike O’Donnell’s' house after the
show and destroyed the place. Between us and them and some girls that came
from... somewhere, there were about 15 of us in the shower. Some standing. Some
not. Then the tub broke. Did I mention we trashed the place? Antiseen are a lot of
fun too. I like that they really enjoy what they do.
I love to travel this fine globe we call earth and noticed that you’re
veterans of touring. What’s your favorite city to visit and which has the
best sex, drugs and rock-n- roll?
Las Vegas was fun, at the Confederacy of Scum show. The other bands
were great fun. It was a week long party. And the people in Cleveland were great
too.
What is it that keeps The Jabbers overall style primarily the same as when
you started in the’70’s?
Not sure. Either we were great songwriters right from the get-go
(contrary to popular belief, we did not co-write My Friend Foot Foot with the
Shaggs) OR, we suck big time.
Of all of your songs which is your personal favorite?
I always liked “I Need Adventure” and “Bukakai Whore”. “I need Adventure”
because it had a DMZ (Busy Man) and Iggy (I Got A Right) feel to it. And “Bukakai”
because it's just kind of eerie and smutty all at once. And it has a fun little bass line.
Is there any show you’ve played that stands out as the most memorable?
Yeah, The last show of a little tour we did With Cheetah Chrome at The
Living Room in Providence. The place was packed tighter than a frogs
ass (and that's watertight). Both bands got onstage to do “I wanna be
your dog” for an encore, with Cheetah and GG taking turns on vocals. They were
both pacing the stage like caged tigers and whilst one was singing, the other would
dive into the crowd. It was a pretty long encore, 20 min. maybe.
Looking back on your musical career is there anything that you wish you
had done differently or regret doing?
I don't think there is anything that could have been changed really. It was no holds
barred and no compromise. It seemed right then and
thinking about it, well, it still seems right to me.
What advice do you have for the up and coming or new to the music
industry punk bands?
Just play .Day and night. Doesn't have to be punk. Rock, acoustic,
grunge, it's all music. If it moves you, makes you feel good, do it. Steal Jimmy
Pages licks. Bend them and twist them till they're your own. There is nothing quite
like being in front of hundreds or thousands of people and they are singing your
song with you. Sing, write, play. You get better along the way. And hey, if you don't,
who cares? If it makes your little dummy’s' head spin, do it. It's all about fun,
right?
Who are the bands/musicians that you're currently listening to and what
is it about them that appeals to you?
I'm not really listening to anything new. The usual Dead Boys, A touch
of The Damned, a heaping helping of the Dolls, copious amounts of the
Ramones, a smattering of Sex Pistols and add in some Flesheaters,
Cramps, DMZ and Iggy to taste and I got a nutritious rock and roll stew.
Mmmm... Mmmm... good!
Holy shit I could go on forever with these questions, but I know
you have to have better things to do. Please provide any closing
comments that you would like.
Well, I hear the Goons are drinkin' again. Maybe it's time to pay
them a visit.
