(This is a partial list of bands I have played Drums for, I left out bands that I played in
where the term was 6 months or shorter.)
Role in Bands? I played Drums in all bands listed above, except I played Guitar in
Skullduggery and The Guttersnipes briefly, and Electric Bass Guitar in the Guttersnipes
also.
How did it all Begin? It all began after I acquired a 1967 Red Sparkle Ludwig Drum set
from my sisters boyfriend Joe, who was playing drums for a band called the Twinkeyz
back in 1978.Joe had pawned the drum set and was not able to get it out of pawn, so I got
the drums out of pawn for him, but he never paid me back for them -so I got my first drum
set for $60.00.After that I started playing along to records with headphones, and after that
I had a lot of people to jam with through school and the neighborhood.
How did you get into Bands? I got into bands mostly because I was around a lot of
Bands. I was in the right place at the right time, and it helps also if your Aunt knows Bill
Graham the promoter from San Francisco. Because of that, I got into a lot of shows and
got to see a lot of different bands at a really young age. Also everyone in my family had
great record collections that I would go through and pilfer.
Who were your influences then? My influences then were the WHO, The Clash, The
Sex Pistols, The Police, The Psychedelic Furs,Siouxsie and the Banshees, and the odd
45 singles I would find in the import section at Tower Records.
Who are your current influences? My current influences are pretty much the same as
before, but with some newer people like Amy Winehouse, the Libertines, The
Babyshambles to name a few off the top of my head.
What is your proudest moment as a musician? My proudest moment has to be when
the record you have recorded and worked on for so long is finally finished and you get to
put the record out on some record label and get out there and tour behind it. that would
have to be #1.
What is your most embarrassing moment as a musician? My most embarrassing
moment as a musician is, when you have to work with other musicians who don't care
about the music Or what they are playing when they are onstage LIVE.
What do you think your path would have been if you never were involved in
music? My path would have been more professional, like a Lawyer or Business
professional of some sort.
Tell us something about yourself very few people are aware of? Very few people
are aware that I know what I am talking about when it comes to music and the business of
music.
When you look back on your musical path to this point, what are your deepest
regrets? I really don't have any, I have learned from everything Good and Bad that has
happened to me through being a musician and playing music professionally up to this
point. I would hope that everyone could have the ups and downs that I have had to
experience through music. It seems nowadays a lot of people are just lost musically,
instead of using their own originality.
If you had the opportunity to start over, what would you change? Maybe I would
have taken more music lessons at a much younger age, so I could play even more
instruments.
I learned the Guitar, Electric Guitar, Electric Bass Guitar, Drums and the little bit of Piano I
know all on my own.
Who has been the most influential person in your life? Those people would have to
be #1. My Mother, because she was the only one who believed in me even when no one
else did. Plus she helped me keep going musically by loaning me money for music
equipment through the years. and #2.my Uncle Buzz, who would turn me onto his Jazz
idols while we would be out driving listening to his 8 track tapes of all these people like
Wes Montgomery and others out on our late night drives at 3-4 in the morning looking for
donut shops that were open. He always said with music, don’t give up-believe in who you
are what you are doing and everyone else will too.
Thanks! Bob Stubbs
